Become a Mentor​

A mentor acts as a role model and friend; they encourage positive choices, promote high self-esteem, and support academic achievement. Mentors visit their assigned “mentee” at school, ideally once each week during the school year, for a meal, game, academic help, school program, and conversation. Be someone that listens, offers friendship, guidance, and encouragement to a young person. You’ll be amazed by how much you’ll get out of the experience.

Requirements

  1. Must be 18 years or older.
  2. Fill out an application.
  3. Attend a training session.
  4. Pass background check.
  5. Begin changing a life.

Commitment

​In order to become a mentor, you must commit to at least one hour a week for at least one full year of mentor responsibilities. To make a difference, you have to be there. A minimum one year of commitment promotes trust, confidence, and stability within the student, which are all crucial components for life changing effects.

Step 1. Submit Background Check Forms

You must also provide us a copy of a photo ID*.

You are not able to begin training until your background check forms have been turned in and cleared. Background checks can take up to 2 months to clear. Please submit as soon as possible.
*For best practices related to personal data privacy and security, we strongly discourage sending the completed forms to us via email.

While we are updating our application process, you are still able to register for a training session.

Step 2. Register for a Training Session

During your session, you will learn more about the requirements and receive tips on how to make a difference. You don’t need special skills, though, ALL mentors are required to attend a training session.
